UFC 74: Settling up

2007 August 26
by Joe Newman

Not a bad night for me. My 1000 units in wagers returned 1,535.24, or a 54 percent return on my investment.

Of the five fights I bet, I only picked wrong in the Roger Huerta vs. Alberto Crane bout. But as I wrote in my earlier post, I considered Crane a value bet and can’t be too disappointed about losing it.

In a hindsight, I might have done a couple things differently. I would have placed the bet on Georges St.-Pierre earlier, while the odds were better, since this is the one fight on the card I had considered a lock. I also would have doubled my bet on Patrick Cote. I felt confident about that one but cut back because of my bet on Crane. I didn’t want to risk too much on two underdogs. Dumb thinking and it cost me an extra 200 units.

Here’s a recap of how I bet:

Randy Couture vs. Gabriel Gonzaga

  • Bet: 200 on Couture @ -105
  • Payout: 390.48

Georges St.-Pierre vs. Josh Koscheck

  • Bet: 400 on St.-Pierre @ -260
  • Payout: 553.85

Roger Huerta vs. Alberto Crane

  • Bet: 100 on Crane @ +300
  • Payout: None

Kendall Grove vs. Patrick Cote

  • Bet: 100 on Cote @ +200
  • Payout: 300

Renato Sobral vs. David Heath

  • Bet: 200 on Sobral @ -220
  • Payout: 290.91
