Sherron Leggett on Tapout
Okay, I think I’m catching on to the Tapout plot.
Punkass saves the day — again. And the other two guys, Mask and SkysKrape? Mere props when it comes down to it.
This episode brings us back to Wisconsin and David Strasser’s gym where this week’s victim, er, up-and-coming fighter is Sherron “Robb Roy” Leggett, who has a 13-3 MMA record when the Tapout crew meets him in June.
Leggett lives in the basement of his mother’s house and works out in his backyard, lifting tires, hitting a ragged, torn heavy bag and running through weeds.
I’m expecting Kimbo Slice and his crew to come around the corner at any moment and throw down for some bare knuckles action. I’m not sure I’m believing it, but I’ll go ahead and buy into the rising star from the hood storyline.
The guys are headed to a biker rally in Iowa for an MMA event billed as Extreme Challenge 79.
Leggett’s a likable guy. He doesn’t really have the cockiness that you might expect from someone in his position. Instead, there’s this feeling it’s him against the world. First, the tapout guys humiliate him by dressing him in a stupid costume (Note to self: Do not take wardrobe tips from guys who wear circus makeup and wigs). Later, Strasser, Leggett’s coach, bails on the fight to go off to Cancun, or somewhere like that. And then, moments before he fights, Leggett can’t find a pair of gloves that fit.
But it’s nice to have the backing of a company like Tapout. With a few phone calls, Punkass (our hero) gets a couple UFC fighters to drop in to help prep Leggett for the fight. Josh Neer shows up and wrestles a bit with him on the day of the weigh-ins and then Davenport resident Spencer Fisher pops in to help man his corner. (If Fisher looks a little rough, it’s because his fight with Sam Stout on UFC Fight Night was just three days earlier).
I won’t tell you how Leggett does in his fight against Chris McDaniel but I will give you a spoiler you may already know.
Leggett was not a completely unknown fighter when the Tapout crew finds him. He had a WEC contract and had already fought in WEC 27 where he got a TKO victory over Charlie Kohler. And then earlier this month, he fought in WEC 29 where he got schooled by Jamie Varner.
Will Leggett be a star? You really can’t tell from the show. The fight against McDaniel doesn’t show us much of his skills. But he is one of those guys you want to make it.
The Rob Roy episode of Tapout will air again at 10 p.m. Sunday on Versus.

Great article. Rob Roy is a superstar and is only going to get better. I see him being a champ one day.
I met those Tapout guys when they came to the bar Rob and I worked at to video tape/interview him….. Yeah… they’re kinda morons. I wouldn’t defend them a day of my life.
But Rob, on the other hand…. that’s one bad mutha’!
He’s got everything you need to be a champ.
And to me, well- he already is.
DO IT UP ROBROY!
